Went for a late lunch while shopping on McKnight Road. The place was extremely dark inside but it did have a patio that was enclosed but it was too crowded to sit there. I'm an avid Mexican foodie and was told by the waiter that I wouldn't be disappointed. I ordered enchiladas which came with black beans and rice with sour cream and salsa on the side. When the enchiladas came I looked on the plate for the enchilada and couldn't find it. Why? Because the enchilada was not rolled up as a normal enchilada is it was laid out flat like you would have a Mexican pizza with one layer and then the filling and then another layer on top. Was I disappointed ?yes I was.The presentation on the plate was extremely full however with the disappointment in the enchiladas I was not impressed. I visited the ladies room and found it to be extremely dirty and in need of care. One would ask would I return to Mad Mex and the answer would be no.
This Mad Mex is my personal favorite! I've gone here for years and I love the atmosphere, the menu and the great happy hour specials. The beer selection is always seasonal and contains local breweries! It seems to always be busy, so expect a crowd, but I think that that adds to the fun most of the time. Also, they have always been generous with their birthday mailings.
I've been going for years and have had almost everything on the menu. Notables are their happy hour with a respectable selection of drafts and wings (my favorite are the San Fran Sisco with house Bleu cheese). The Big Burrito Group really has figured out this restaurant thing, and their birthday coupon is one of the highlights of my restaurant year!
Delicious cocktails and amazing Mexican dinner!!!
Rachel is awesome!
Mad Mex is a special kind of local restaurant chain. They never fail to make their food top of the line and absolutely delicious, which is hard to find when you’ve got multiple locations. The prices are very fair for the quality of food they present, and the menu is very large, meaning it would be difficult to not be able to find something that sounds good. I always love interacting with the staff— they’re so kind and courteous. After all these years of being open, they continue to exceed my expectations. The high-quality food and excellent service make it one of the gems of Pennsylvania.
We are making our way to all of the area Mad Mex locations. This was a good one! Excellent service. Large portions. The only minor issue was that the Gobblerito gravy was cold.
I've eaten at the bar a couple times here; if you ever do, bring a danged flashlight, because this is one of the darkest spots in Pittsburgh. And it is decorated in a very unpleasant freshman dorm style with cheap stickers on everything. The food's good, not great. The burritos are big. I'd love to see this place cleaned up and modernized, with some functional lighting. A few tweaks to the menu and it could be a nice place to go.
Haven't been back to Mad Mex since I moved away to another state. Was pleased with the new to me menu options since I am a vegetarian. The tofu tacos are yummy!
Food was great service was trash. Took a while to even greet us and take our drink order, saw several waiters/waitresses laughing and cracking jokes with each other but couldn’t figure out which one was ours. One waiter was texting on his phone for a while. However, maybe it was just an off night. Would come back for the food it was hot and big portions. (I posted pictures up of our meal)
This place is awesome! Portions are great for the money and the food was delicious! Our server was excellent! She was patient with us while deciding, even helping us with our orders and she also had great suggestions. The margaritas were phenomenal, with so many different options from which to choose. Even though they were working on the outside of the building, they made sure that disruption to our meal was minimal. We had a great lunch and will return!
Do not use DoorDash to order food from Mad Mex. I am a dasher and just spent 20 minutes for an order that was marked 26 minutes prior as ready. It wasn’t. I canceled my pick up and left the store. Eventually another dasher will get there, but because they improperly mark things prepared in their system and dashers have strict timelines, there is a strong chance you won’t get you food on time or it’ll be cold. They e done this multiple times in the 2 weeks I have been dashing. It’s not a mistake or one off.
Always a good reliable place for good Cali-Mexian style food (that's at least how I see it). They also have a good source of vegetarian options on the menu. I've been going to many different Mad Max's since the opening of the 1st one, in Oakland! I moved away from PGH, & just recently came back for a visit. I was extremely upset that my favorite Kiwi Margarita, was NO longer on the menu!!
One of my preferred spots for quality Mexican food. I think I might become a regular. My apartment is far from here, so I can't visit often.
Had called ahead for 4 Gobblerito's and the order was ready when promised. Three were enjoyed by 1st timers and can't stop raving about them. Great job chef!
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Thank you Shawn for your hospitality. 420 was a fun day.
This location is great, except for the parking. The lot is small with not many spots available. Once in, the atmosphere is great. Friendly service and great food. I also get delivery through DoorDash and I have never had any problems with the orders.
Friendly staff and always kid friendly.
I think this is one of the smallest Mad Mex in the area. Good experience here. We just came for the happy hour. Not much room by the bar, so kind of disappointed with it.
They're doing an amazing job with the new covid-19 requirements. Requiring masks unless seated, disposing of menus after use, separate entrances and exits. I want to support businesses who are doing the right thing, and avoiding those who aren't - this is a place to give your business!
I have been going to Mad Mex for many years and enjoy the menu very much, it seems a bit different than the other Mexican style places around, even out of state. If you like to try new things, this is the place. I normally stick with fajitas or burrito but they have a nice variety. If you like items from the bar and you are 21 or over, the margarita is good but if you enjoy beer, they have quite a selection. They also have a nice selection of tequila if that is your choice. Of course they also have pop and coffee and other non alcoholic beverages also. The environment tends to be a little loud, especially when they are busy. Also they normally off happy hour specials early and late, both for certain drinks and half off most appetizers. Please verify info on the website as it might change. Enjoy!
The wings were hot, crispy outside and juicy inside. The mango margarita tasted and looked like orange juice to me. The burrito was mostly rice. It was like fried rice inside of a tortilla. If I were to come back, I would only come mainly for the happy hour wings. Parking was not a problem because they have their own lot plus additional parking in a connected lot.
The remodel took away some fun artwork. But the food and drinks are the same.
A lot of really tasty stuff on the menu, but I always come back to the wing o tacos. All the sauce flavors are great, but most are spicier than I expected, so be prepared. Waffle fries are always cooked really well - crispy outside, fluffy inside. Only complaint is that the prices are a little high for the food quantity. Not an outstanding value.
Another year of enjoying the Gobblerito with the family!
Great food. Usually get it to go as I find the place dark, loud, and crowded. Parking can be tough.
Great food and margaritas were excellent. Excellent bar atmosphere. Very good service. Good prices.
Good food. Awesome vegan selection. Might have gotten my order wrong with vegan options. All in all the food was delicious though.
Some of the best Mexican in the North Hills. Gets very busy so go on an off time like the weekday or between lunch and dinner. Their burritos are amazing and they’re served with lots of sides.
Great place to meet freind drinks are on point!!
Delicious Margaritas! The Burritos and their Habanero Salsa are Stellar as well! The mango marg is the best in my opinion as I really enjoy the pieces of real fruit floating in the drink (Rocks style)
"funky fresh Cal Mex.". Great food, awesome rotating craft beer selection, and cool, funky decor. Definitely recommend
Is the rice supposed to be so dry? First time there probably won’t come back. Chipotle is better and cheaper
Great food. Period. We had a party of 6 and had an assortment of food - chimichanga, tacos, burrito bowls and such. Everything was delicious and we left stuffed. Took two stars off for grumpy server and weak (premade) margaritas. (No we cant make a virgin mojito for daughter. Really?) Also was touted as Asian fusion ... really only saw one or two Asian style items.
Had the gobblerito. It was a real turkey. Filled with potatoes and stuffing, the cheapest of ingredients. A few pieces of turkey, a handful, if that, of corn. Why have people raved about this turkey? Most folks have no idea what good food is. As long as it's a lot of food they just stuff their faces.
Good food, as always with the big burrito group folks. Beer list great.
Stopped for a late lunch (in the age of COVID19). The food was good as always, the margaritas cold and tart. All the staff were masked. We were quickly seated, with plenty of space. Worth the stop
Good Wings, Great Burritos, and an ever-changing selection of draft beers...
Great tacos. Great service. Reasonable price.
If you want a lively atmosphere, this is the place to be! The food was terrific and the drinks were strong! I'm not from Pittsburgh so I was sad to leave, but I definitely know where to go next time I'm in town! Loved it!
It's all about that happy hour and late night
Great food and service. A+ to the Big Azz Margarita.
Everything was overall Good....Food and Dronks were spot on delicious!!! (Even though they didn't have the beer my best friend attempted to order, our waiter provided a comparable substitute)....But that's where his "accolades" end.....Past our initial drink order, our waiter almost always had to be waved down, even to Pay the check.....if we had a more attentive wait staff, the review would have been 5 star🤷♀️
The Plataversary Burrito was amazing. Maybe the best thing I've had there.
Great food and Good service...
One of our favorite places.
This is the best Mad Mex location that I've been to yet. I didn't catch our bartender's name unfortunately, but her customer service was awesome and she was very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely stop in again the next time I'm in the area.
Really great food and Kasie was an awesome server. They are very conscientious of allergies and have a lot of options for gluten free dishes.
Good food, attentive service
